What are you doing Vero?
Well, I’m taking a break, I am Reading Taylor Caldwell and I
am listening to some classical music. Yes! I love Beethoven! And I really
appreciate a good reading John! While I’m doing all these I am also enjoying
this marvelous day and I really like listening to the birds who I think are
singing because I am lying here. Why am I taking a break? Well, because I have
studied all day long and it’s time to relax, besides my parents are coming
tonight but I’m not cooking for them, instead, I am ordering Chinese. My mom’s
favorite food. I think it’ll be a nice evening. They want to talk about the new
book I am writing.
Present Progressive
Present Progressive is a very simple topic which we use to
describe actions happening at the moment of speaking, for near future events or
temporary actions.
1. Actions happening at the moment of speaking
You are reading this article now.
She is listening to music at the moment.
We are talking too much right now.
2. Near future events
They are coming for dinner.
I’m flying to Paris next week.
You are taking the reinforcement class.
3. Temporary actions
She is acting up lately.
We are meeting after class this week.
I’m training for the championship next month.
STRUCTURE
When talking about the structure we find two important
elements, which is sometime easily forgotten by ESL. The verb to and a second
verb in present participle.
Positive Structure:
I am talking with them.
We are eating Chinese food.
She is having some exams.
Negative Structure:
We are not cooking today.
They are not coming home.
It is not raining today.
Interrogative Structure:
Are you listening to me?
Am I drinking water?
Is he joining us?
If you feel confident enough let’s try answering the
question: What are you doing right now?
To be honest with you, Present Progressive is not rocket
science, however, if you still need some reinforcement don’t forget
